In this video I install a Raymarine Quantum 2 Doppler radar on my steel trawler Renko. Once it is mounted, the radar has to be aligned to the boat's heading so that targets appear on the right bearing, and on a steel boat the electronic compasses have to be calibrated for the deviation the hull causes on each heading.

A boat without a radar of its own can still make sure it shows up on other vessels' radar with a radar reflector, and the higher it is the further away it can be seen. In this video I raise one up a yacht's backstay with the main halyard, attached with a slip knot that can be released from the deck without climbing the mast.
